Tada..! Yes, I just recently bought sample kit for my beloved roommate (so-called her birthday present). She has a combination skin where her T-zone is very dry and the rest of her face is practically oily. For those who have similar skin type, would you please share any skin care product that might solve her problem? Your help will be very much appreciated :). Anyway, besides the sample kit, I decided to buy a little bit of stuffs for myself teehee :P. I bought a full jar of Kaolin Clay and a sample jar of foundation in Ivory.
Price: Kaolin Clay RM21.90, Foundation RM54.90 (for a full size jar, mine was free)
What it claims: Kaolin Clay is known for its ability to absorb oil without causing dryness and aid in healing acne. Signature Minerals foundation will give you a silky smooth and long lasting finish which is non-drying.
Size: 6g (Kaolin Clay) and 10g (Foundation)
For those who do not know Kaolin Clay, here is a little bit information I got from a website
White Kaolin Clay is found in virtually all powdered and dry cosmetics and most wet cosmetics.
Its natural adsorbent properties makes it essential in hygiene products and is often found in soaps, scrubs, poultices, deodorants, facial powders and masks It is the mildest of all clays and is suitable to add to products created for people with sensitive skin. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it. It does not draw oils from the skin, so it can also be used on dry skin types without negative results.
Kaolin Clay is high in calcium, silica, zinc and magnesium, which are beneficial for oily, blemished skin. The clay’s mildly drying and disinfectant properties help heal existing blemishes and inflammations, while preventing new ones from forming. It can also be used as a scent fixative.
Traditionally, clays are used to reduce swelling and inflammation, and to draw impurities from the skin. Cosmetic clays are made up of different mineral contents, and each clay type has a different effect on the skin. The high mineral content of White Kaolin Clay rejuvenates the skin while the clay exfoliates and stimulates blood circulation to the skin. Regular use of clay facials will remove dead skin cells, improve circulation to the skin, remove debris from the pores and bring about a smooth healthy glow.
Kaolin Clay (white dirt as it is called in the South) has been used medically to treat diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, and is also used in paper making, paint, fiberglass, porcelains and ceramics, china, and toothpaste. Some of the most popular products made with Kaolin Clay are Kaopectate, Rolaids, Di-gel, Mylanta, and Maalox. Some people have actually been known to consume White Clay regularly and not only like the taste but crave it (probably due to a vitamin deficiency). It has been said that the taste of white dirt is similar to the fresh way that the dry ground smells after a sprinkle of rain falls. Dirt-eating is an ancient tradition that is practiced all over the world and although the demise of the practice has been predicted for many years, it still persists, particularly in rural areas of the South.
Be careful though, some of you may be allergic to it.. That is what I found out anyway (thank goodness I am not allergic to it!)
Beware, there will be several scary looking photos ahead so run away while you still have the chance to.
OK, so I wore the whole thing for approximately 7-8 hours today FYI 😀 I shall proceed to my review then 😀
Kaolin Clay (upper) basically is a white loose powder with no smell. Do not fret, although it looks strikingly white, it is actually translucent so it will not give out any color once you apply it on your face (take a look at my scary picture number two below. You can hardly see any difference with the scary picture number one).
The foundation I got (lower) is in Ivory. As I have pink undertone and my skin is pretty pale (mind you, I am not fair, just pale. That’s horrible -_-) so I chose this shade. Signature Minerals does have a range of colors that will suit for your skin tone and undertone so go ahead and find your shade.
The first picture is basically my stupid blank look face. I just applied my usual skin care routine (eye cream and moisturizer. I skipped my sunblock due to the foundation containing SPF15). Move on to the second picture (pardon for the crappy look, this is the best shot I got this morning). I have already applied a thin layer of Kaolin Clay on my face using my EDM Flat Top Brush. You cannot really notice any difference as my face seems to look the same. Just a tad bit less shiny.
The last picture is the finished look after I applied the foundation twice and another layer of Kaolin Clay. Yes, I used it both as primer and finishing powder :). The foundation is really sheer, the coverage is really light when I first applied it. After I applied the second layer, the finished look is as in the third scary picture above.
I was freaked out at first because the foundation looks REALLY light on my skin. I was thinking maybe the shade I got was too light. Then, I went to the kitchen to prepare some tea and coffee. Surprisingly, when I went back to my room, the whitish appearance had faded away and it started to look more like my skin tone. Yipee!
After I was done with my face, I had to rush to uni :P. It has been extraordinarily hot lately and I was pretty busy at the lab today. So when I came back home, this is how I looked like..
Pardon at the tired-looking face, I was so exhausted anyway.. You can see that my face is hardly shiny! 😀 Before going out of my house, I did put some bronzer and highlighter so that is why my face looks like that. Other than that, no oily feeling on my face at all.. However, my skin feels a little bit dry, so these products might work better for normal to oily skin types.
One thing I do not really like about the packaging is their jar. Somehow I found it pretty difficult to pour out the product onto the lid. I either get not enough or excess product -_- I dislike it!
Plus: controls oil well, the foundation blends easily, affordable, does not melt easily, contains SPF
Minus: packaging sucks, slightly drying, very light coverage
Oh I think I’ve already infected your eyes.. might as well put on some more vain pics of mine 😛 By the way, the second pic is my finished look for today 😀 Not so much, I was late for class! lol Again, pardon the stupid-looking face!
