I recently received this in a sample size from a swap ^_^ Here’s how the full size looks like:
Price: RM135 (yes super pricey!!)
What it claims: Immediate and long lasting (8 hours) mattifying action. Moisturizes and refine skin’s texture. Tolerance dermatologically tested. Non-comedogenic.
The first thing I noticed about this so-called foundation is its smell. You can say that products from L’Occitane, The Body Shop and Skin Food mostly smell good, though each brand carries its own characteristic aroma. For L’Occitane, the smell is not as strong as some products from The Body Shop. This one particularly has a very nice vanilla-like smell. It is not too strong, pretty soft that you can only smell it if you sniff it right from your palm 😉
L’Occitane carries several main ingredients for their skincare line. They use immortelle (for mature skin and it has anti-aging property), Shea butter (for products catered to those with dehydrated skin), red rice (for oily and combination skin), almond & apple (for those who start having the sign of aging), olive (for normal skin, to boost the radiance) and shea & cotton (for sensitive skin). Their range is pretty wide huh? 😀 This Ultra-Matte Face Fluid falls under the category for oily and combination skin and its main ingredient is red rice.
The texture of this face fluid is quite creamy yet it still pretty fluid. The color is brownish milky kind of color (pardon the poor description of the color haha). Mind you, a little goes a long way. You do not actually need this much (see picture) to cover the entire face, only half of it will do..
To me somehow, this Ultra-Matte Face Fluid serves as a face primer! 😀 When I applied it, it glides on really smoothly and the finish reminds me of Revlon face primer (the gel-like one) yet it still leaves my skin moisturized. Hoorah! It somehow helps to smooth and even out the skin texture so that it will be ready for foundation application. I know it is meant to be a skincare, but it does do a great job as a primer 😉 If only it was not too expensive………….
Look at that! 😀 Well Ultra-Matte Face Fluid is translucent upon application albeit its cream color. As it is supposed to be in their skin care range, it does not provide any color correction or whatsoever. Oh well, I did not expect this from the very beginning though :). Besides you can always do the correction later on, right?
I was out at uni for practically almost 10 hours that day and I was wearing my MAC Studio Fix Fluid and Lumiere Sand Silk Finishing Powder on top of this Ultra-Matte Face Fluid. The result: Matte skin throughout the day despite the crazy weather and it did not leave my foundation cracking nor sticky. I did not observe any patchy areas on my face too, proving that it did moisturize my skin. Later on, I found out that the powdery rice actually helps to absorb surface oil and reduce shine. It’s natural and it does a good job, so what does prevent me from buying the full size? Price! Anyway, if you wanted to splurge, I recommend you to get this one as it is a multi-purpose product, a moisturizer as well as a primer.
Plus: Mattifying, multi-purpose, nice scent, moisturizing
