Price: USD 160 for 30 ml

Onto the fourth review of SK-II products, please bear with me.. Just two more review including this and I’m done, at least for now :P. As per my previous samples, I received a travel sized bottle from GWP. The bottle it came in looks exactly the same like the full sized one. The bottle contained 15 ml of product. First thing first, I love the bottle! It survived numerous traveling and I experienced no spillage whatsoever. Even after I finished the content I still keep the packaging for future use.. Oh well you never know when this jiffy stuff might came in handy.

At first I was perplexed by its name, I was questioning myself what the ‘C’ in Facial Treatment Repair C stands for. After consulting Dr. Google turns out it stands for concentrate. Ring any bell? Yes you guess it right, it contains concentrated form of Pitera, in other words the thicker version of Facial Treatment Essence and it’s 10 times as smelly lol. The concentrate was a thick clear liquid which spread quite easily and dried out pretty quick after a few patting down. My skin was significantly moisturized afterwards. The leaflet it came with recommended 1 to 2 pumps for each application, but 1 pump is pretty much sufficient. I tried using 2 pumps before and it took forever to sink in. I’m not usually skimpy when it comes to the amount of skincare I slather on my face but trust me 1 pump is enough, no need to waste precious goody, it ain’t cheap.. Well unless you have a larger surface area then you may need more, just adjust accordingly.

Combined with the Facial Treatment Essence and Cellumination Deep Surge EX (review coming soon) I woke up to a fully moisturized face and smooth canvas for makeup application. So far this has been my routine night skincare regime, alternating between Facial Treatment Repair C and The Spot Specialist. I seem to always go back to this serum whenever I need that boost of hydration. Speaking of reducing fine lines, I can’t vouch for that as I don’t have noticeable fine lines 😛 (for now at least).

So the next big question is would I repurchase? I love it, need I say more? I know I’ve been praising SK-II skincare because they work for me. What works for me might not work for you, so if you planned to splurge do try to score some sample as I notice quite a lot of people I bumped into are allergic to these Pitera-loaded skincare.

Pros: moisturizes skin well, give smooth canvas to work on makeup

Cons: the yeast smell might be too strong for some people

I’m not going to comment on the price as I can justify myself to pay that amount as long as my skin’s happy 😉

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Repair Complex II

I received 3 sad meager sachet sample of *inhales deeply* Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II *PHEW* Such a long name! Let’s just call it Estee Lauder ANR II, shall we? I’ve known so many beauty bloggers swore by Estee Lauder ANR. I never tried the previous version myself, so when the supposed-to-be upgraded version was released many moons ago I scored some samples, even though it’s just 3 pathetic sachets lol. I got it from Vanity Trove by the way.

Each sample was enough for 3 applications, or if you have a rather large surface area the sample might be only good for 2 uses. I apply it after patting down SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. This Estee Lauder ANR II is rather runny, gingery in color and have this ginseng-like scent. I.hate.ginseng. so anything smells like one is seriously a turn off, to me at least. Geez, I got sidetracked a little. Moving on.. The way I use it is spreading it to my whole face and neck and slowly patting it on. It feels a little tacky and it becomes more pronounced once I put my serum on. The serum which usually sinks in pretty fast takes a little more time and it becomes sticky, eew. However, I found that ANR II significantly hydrate my skin. I wake up to a bouncy skin! Amazing..

Many are comparing ANR II with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, so I sneaked some of my mum’s Kiehl’s MRC to feel the difference. It significantly boosts hydration and I wake up to the same bouncy skin. Overall, I prefer Kiehl’s MRC to Estee Lauder ANR II simply because the MRC works similarly sans the sticky feeling and ginseng scent (it has this calming lavender scent).

So, I’m guessing in the end it all comes down to preference and skin condition. Choose whichever one works best for you. As for me I wouldn’t be purchasing the full sized bottle as I might as well buying Kiehl’s MRC. However, for now I will just stick to my current skincare regime, it’s too many steps me thinks lol, but I may incorporate it when the need arises.

Have you ever tried this before? Let me know how you think!

See you all on the next post!

Hi beauties! Today there will be no beauty-related post. I’ve been married for almost 2 years, and nope I’m by no means a good cook. Cooking is something I recently tried after tying the knot :P. Before I’m married my mum’s the one who always does the cooking and I had so little interest whenever she’s doing her magic in the kitchen. Once I’m married it’s time to start learning and kick those stove a good start. My first few attempts *ahem by few i mean A LOT!* were disastrous LOL. To think that I never hold frying pan in my whole life.. oh well I guess you can imagine it yourself and I’ll spare the gore details out mwahahaha.

So I was thinking I should get out of my comfort zone and start trying out new dishes. Mind you the recipes I’ve tried so far were the easy peasy ones, no nifty crafty complicated stuff yet.

I’ve been craving for Indian butter chicken for quite a while. The main ingredient, garam masala, was not readily available in where I live. Oh, I live in the jungle if you’re wondering. When I scored myself a bottle of garam masala I was set to make some butter chicken right away. I found this recipe on Edible Garden, but I made little changes here and there to my liking. Here it goes..

Butter Chicken Masala

Butter Chicken Masala

  • 250 gram boneless chicken, cubed (about 3cm each)
  • 3 onions, minced
  • 1 tomato, pureed
  • 1 tbsp tomato sauce (I used my local ABC tomato sauce)
  • 1 tbsp butter (I used Anchor salted butter)
  • 1 tbsp of minced garlic
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3 tbsp cream
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • small bunch of cilantro
  • a dash of ground blackpepper

  1. Heat the butter in a pan, add minced onion and garlic. Fry until fragrant.
  2. Add coriander, chili, turmeric. Add a pinch of salt. Fry further.
  3. Add tomato puree and tomato paste. Cook until bubbles form.
  4. Throw in milk, cilantro and chicken. Turn the heat to medium, leave until the chicken is soft. Stir occasionally.
  5. Add garam masala and cream, then add ground blackpepper as much as you like it. Cook for another 2-3 minutes or so.
  6. Serve it hot on top of basmati rice.

Okay so my version was a lot more spicier just because I like it that way. The original recipe only calls for a teaspoon of garlic not a tablespoon, and only a teaspoon of chili NOT two lol. I add in the blackpepper for a slightly smokier taste.

Overall the dish was scrumptious! My husband actually had a second helping *ahem* and it cures my craving for butter chicken.

So what should I try next? I’m all ears!

Just sampling is a series where I review products on a glance, meaning the products I tried from not-so-generous samples (lol!). Pretty much just reviewing on the surface.

The Face Shop FACE it Aura CC Cream

The Face Shop FACE it Aura CC Cream

Product description

Color Control Cream that creates a radiant and clear make-up appearance as if the skin is being spotlighted

Price: Kindly check your local counter or your trusty online shop, it differs by quite a lot.

I received this sample from Lolabox anniversary box (their April 2014 box). At first I thought it was just another flyer but the card it came with did include one sample, so I rummaged through the box to find the sample. Later on I realised it was attached to the flyer-look-alike. It’s integrated on the left handside of the flyer that can be torn apart.

I have no idea how much product this sample contains as I’ve thrown away the card it came with and there was no amount specified on the flyer either. I got 3 uses from this sample, so it must have contained about a measly 0.5 to 1 ml. This is why I hate sachet samples, but for base makeup it’s still tolerable as I don’t usually pile on too much base makeup. The CC stands for color control. Yeah yeah, now it’s the CC cream era, after BB cream. What’s next? DD cream? Just like BB cream, I don’t treat this as skincare product, but as a base or foundation which needs to be thoroughly double cleansed.

The Face Shop FACE it Aura CC Cream

The Face Shop FACE it Aura CC Cream

The shade I received was 02 Natural Beige. The swatch above somehow doesn’t fit how it looked like in real. I don’t know what went wrong, still investigating it. Anyway, despite the fine look of the shade, it was scarily orange. I was dead afraid to put it on my face but thankfully it blended well to match my skintone, albeit a tad too yellow. FYI, I have neutral skintone, very slightly yellow. I’m between MAC NC20-25, Deauville in NARS Sheer Glow. The texture was very light and easily blended that gives a semi-matte finish. The coverage is sheer at best, I still needed a few dab of concealer to cover my panda eyes. I set it with MAC MSF Natural very lightly and dust on some Guerlain Meteorites Teint Rose to balance out the yellow tone. Remember, a little goes a long way, the amount I used for my entire face was half of what shown in the picture above.

Lasting power was pretty fine, it stayed put for a good 8 hours. I noticed a little fading at the end of the day but mainly because I was sweating like a pig, friggin weather is roasting me alive. No oiliness, but again this maybe due to my skin condition. It has SPF30 PA++ which is pretty good, but I will still recommend a separate application of sunscreen. Furthermore, you might want to avoid wearing this when you’re having photos taken as the SPF translates into white cast in pictures.

The card I received from Lolabox didn’t state how much it’s priced at, but it’s The Face Shop so I’m gauging it’s on the affordable spectrum. I’ve come across some online shops that sell this at IDR 250.000 and some said the price at the official counter is around IDR 600.000-ish. I personally haven’t checked it out in person, so don’t take my word on it :P.

Overall it’s a pretty good base given you don’t have too many blemishes, just looking for something to even out your skintone. However it’s not something that I would repurchase as I still have bajillion bases waiting to be used in my drawer lol. For those who’re sensitive to silicone, you might want to score a sample of this before buying the full size.

Pros: light, semi-matte finish, easily blended

Cons: a tad too yellow, produces white cast on photography

Signing off for now. Anything just drop me a comment, or two, or as many as you like 😉

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

Product description

This unique Pitera-rich product by SK-II moisturizes to improve texture and clarity for a more beautiful, glowing complexion.

Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Water, Sodium Benzoate, Methylparaben, Sorbic Acid.

Price: IDR 2.027.100 at Luxola / USD 134 at Lotte Duty Free Shop for 215 ml

Don’t kill me just yet, I still have a few of SK-II reviews lined up lol. This is the infamous holy smelly water, yes it smells a little yucky, yeast kind of smell when I first used it. By now I have developed immunity towards the smell haha.  Like any other SK-II products I’ve reviewed so far I received this in a 15 ml travel-sized bottle. I use about one teaspoon and the sample lasted me for about 1 month of regular use, both day and night. It’s either a love or hate relationship when it comes to this smelly water. Some people rate this as their must-have item whilst quite a lot totally detest this. So which category do I fall into? Read on 😉

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (I will just call this FTE) used to come in a heavy sturdy glass bottle but recently they have changed it to plastic bottle. It was light alright but somehow it feels cheap. You pay not only for the content but also the packaging too, no? Or maybe it’s just me, just let it slip, will ya? The so-called Pitera-rich product is very watery, just like your good ole tap water with hideous scent. Again it’s said to come from the yeast extract they use. You either pour sufficient amount of this product onto cotton pad and pat to the hole face or you can opt to pour a teaspoon to your palm, spread it across your face and pat dry. I opted for the latter. I’d rather have my hands soaked up the goody rather than the cotton pad. It’s absorbed pretty quick after a bit of patting down, and immediately I can feel my skin’s moisturized. Not too moisturized that I can totally skip my moisturizer. Mind you, you still need your moisturizer after applying SK-II FTE. It’s just an essence, it’s supposed to help your skin absorb the next step of your skincare better. Some kind of booster.

I notice that whenever I’m using SK-II FTE, my serum and moisturizer are absorbed faster. It’s either this FTE works or my mind is playing some trick on me lol. What I notice after regular use is that my skin is significantly hydrated, dry patches around my nose and mouth started to diminish and makeup applies better.

So.. am I a convert? Duh, yeah~~ I’ve purchased full sized bottle ever since I’ve finished the travel sized bottles. I’m on my third bottle now. Each bottle lasts me about 6 months, so I can still deal with the price, me thinks.

Pros: hydrating, readily absorbed, plumps skin up, boosts absorption of skincare

Cons: plastic packaging, mind-boggling yucky smell

Have any of you tried this? Do let me know your opinions on the comment section. Toodle 🙂

[Haul] Soaps and Beyond

Yep another acquisition 😀 The package arrived last Monday but as usual the hubby forgot to inform me. What I got is mainly handmade soaps and brush cleanser from Moporie.

I have few transactions with Moporie before and they all went smooth. Recently I found out Erie (who’s the sweet lady behind the online shop) is into soap-crafting. I have seen several of her products and I was really intrigued. My skin is getting drier as I age, trust me I can tolerate sandpaper back when I was teenager, but now it’s like sahara. My recurring eczema doesn’t help either. Erie claims that all of her handmade soaps are free of SLS  which is known to dry skin out. She also came up with Brush Best Friend Soap intended for no other than our precious brushes. Besides, look at those beautiful soaps! Who can’t resist such pretty goodies?? LOL.

So what do I get? I ordered 2 bottles of BBFs (gosh it’s brush BFFs!! lol), I intend to give one to my sister so she can start taking care of her brushes, she’s mighty lazy when it comes to cleaning up her brushes. I also got myself Yuzu Silk Soap (which I used straight away, review will come up later), (from top left clockwise) Sweet Blooms Soap, Musk Silk Soap, Rainbow Soap, Coffee Soap, Black Raspberry & Vanilla Soap, Strawberry Milk Soap, and Calendula Breezes Soap. If you noticed, there’s additional soap in the center picture. That and Black Raspberry & Vanilla Soap are extras from Erie. Very sweet right? I can’t wait to try them all out, but of course it’s gotta be one by one. The presence of these soaps definitely makes me excited whenever I’m going to shower. I will review them all for sure :D.

Signing off now..

P.S. Fellow Indonesians, we’re experiencing lots of harpitnas (hari kejepit nasional lol). What did you do or plan to do? Happy Holidayssss

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated to Moporie and all the items are purchased by yours truly, except the extras of course 😛

Just sampling is a series where I review products on a glance, meaning the products I tried from not-so-generous samples (lol!). Pretty much just reviewing on the surface.

I came across Juara Skincare from my beauty box subscription ages ago, it was Lolabox if I’m not mistaken. The sample sachets came with a cute brown pouch which I still use up to now. Juara in Indonesian means winner or champion. At first I thought Juara Skincare is a local brand. After some googling turned out it’s a US-based company. One of the founders is Indonesian (yay to Indonesians!). The inspiration behind their skincare line comes from Indonesian botanical ingredients, they researched and formulated their products in the US. Apparently they claim to be 100% vegetarian and paraben-free.

Juara Candlenut Body Creme

Juara Candlenut Body Creme

Water/Eau, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Emulsifying Wax NF, Cyclomethicone, Illipe (Shorea stenoptera) Seed Butter, Candlenut (Aleurites moluccana) Oil, Avocado (Persea gratissima) Oil, Stearyl Alcohol, Rice Bran (Oryza sativa) Oil, Dimethicone, Carrot (Daucus Carota sativa) Seed Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Fragrance/Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Caprylate, Phenypropanol

This body creme boasts to have contained candlenut, which they claim to have high content of fatty acids to help fighting dry skin. The sachet I received was sooooo small I could only use it once, all over my body. The scent was very pleasant, mild and relaxing, I actually loved how it smells. The texture was pretty light but it moisturized my skin well and left my skin velvety smooth. It retails for USD35 for 213g tube. I believe Juara Skincare is available locally in major cities, I may ask someone to get a tub for me. That’s how much I like it :P.

Juara Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer

Juara Sweet Black Tea & Rice Moisturizer

Water/Eau, Candlenut (Aleurites moluccana) Oil, Emulsifying Wax NF, Avocado (Persea gratissima) Oil Unsaponifiables, Rice Bran (Oryza sativa) Oil, Cyclomethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Illipe (Shorea stenoptera) Seed Butter, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Squalane, Saccharomyces/Xylinum Black Tea Ferment, Hydroxyethylacrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polysorbate 60, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Phenypropanol, Fragrance/Parfum

As you can see this moisturizer contains candlenut, avocado, rice and black tea. It’s supposed to hydrate and help us women fight aging :P. Texture-wise it’s a cream moisturizer, a little on the lighter side. The sample I received gave me 6 uses. The moisturizer absorbed pretty quick, left my skin moisturized well throughout the day. However there is this little oily residue I don’t like after application. Maybe it’s just me who’s used to gel moisturizer. I had this nagging feeling that my makeup would slid down on top of this moisturized due to its slightly oily feeling, but thankfully it didn’t. They recommend to mix this moisturizer with matte foundation to create a dewy finish but I didn’t try it. Juara Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer retails at USD 49 for 120ml.

Juara Rice Facial Cleanser

Juara Rice Facial Cleanser

Water, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Acrylates Copolymer, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Rice (Oryza sativa) Starch, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycol Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Caprylate, Phenypropanol, Fragrance.

Yet another rice-inspired skincare from Juara. As you might have known, Asians love their rice, so I wasn’t too surprised it’s now included in a skincare lol. Juara Rice Facial Cleanser shared similar scent to that of Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturize, lightly scented and calming. This facial cleanser was pretty thick but it lathered really well upon contact with water. My face immediately felt cleaned but a tad too dry for my liking. My skin is now on the drier spectrum so those who are blessed with normal skin should give this a try. At USD 25 for 134g it’s worth a shot as a little goes a long way. I only need a small dollop everytime I wash my face.

Overall, I recommend Candlenut Body Creme as among the three samples I received, this seems to be the superior one. The moisturizer and facial wash weren’t too bad either. I would love to try other products from Juara as it’s quite a promising brand.

Signing off for now, see you in next post!
